About Me
Hello, my name is Kathy. I am an experienced person-centred therapist, supervisor, and educator of counselling students. For the past 13 years I have run a private counselling practice from home in the Vale of Belvoir where I see individual clients of all age groups (including children and young people) and couples. I also see qualified and trainee counsellors looking for supervision of their practice. I am experienced in facilitating supervision groups for 2 or more qualified counsellors or trainees.
I am an accredited member of the British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy (BACP) and I work within their professional and ethical guidelines.
I have a comfortable and dedicated room for counselling with ensuite facilities. My room is on the ground floor and has wheelchair access. If you would prefer, I can for the cost of petrol at 60p per mile from my address come to you.
The best way to decide if I am the right counsellor or supervisor for you is to contact me via WhatsApp, text, email, telephone, to arrange a free, no obligation, meeting of usually around 30-40 minutes.
I am a qualified and experienced teacher of counselling and psychotherapy in higher education and I am able to offer educational services, including presenting at conference & workshop facilitation. Please contact me to discuss.
Training, Qualifications & Experience
My background is in nursing, and as a qualified nurse I worked within the NHS for many years. I am currently employed by Derby University as Programme Leader and Senior Lecturer in Counselling and Psychotherapy and I combine this role with my private counselling practice.
I have a first class honours degree in Humanistic Counselling and a distinction at Masters level in Trauma Studies, both from the University of Nottingham. I am also a qualified supervisor, with a diploma in supervision. I have a postgraduate Diploma in working with children and young people and a postgraduate certificate in a technique known as Focusing.
I have attended further training in working creatively with clients, working with anxiety and depression, sexuality, domestic violence, self harm and suicide, loss and grief, childhood sexual abuse, safeguarding and child protection, mindfulness, and counselling and the law.
I volunteered for 4 years for ISAS (Incest and Sexual Abuse Survivors) and I was a volunteer counsellor and board member for Counselling Xtra in Nottingham for 3 years. I have worked as a consultant in mediation with local companies. I am trained and experienced in group therapy. My research interests include the role of relationship in counselling children and young people, psychological trauma following miscarriage and stillbirth, person centred education, and reflective practice of counselling students.
