Counselling for Children & Young People
At Vale of Belvoir Counselling, I offer specialist counselling for children and young people using a person-centred approach. I believe that every young person has the innate capacity for growth, healing, and change when they are offered the right environment — one built on empathy, acceptance, and genuine understanding.
Growing up can be a challenging and confusing time. Children and young people today face a wide range of pressures, from academic expectations and family changes to social challenges and mental health struggles. Through person-centred counselling, I provide a supportive space where young clients can explore their feelings safely and at their own pace, without fear of judgment.
In my work, I focus on building a trusting therapeutic relationship, recognising that trust is essential for young people to feel comfortable expressing themselves. Sessions are guided by the needs and experiences of the young person, rather than imposing rigid structures or expectations. I may incorporate creative tools such as art, play, or storytelling alongside talking therapies, depending on what feels most natural and helpful for each individual.
My approach respects the young person’s autonomy, valuing their voice and encouraging them to find their own solutions. I work collaboratively with them to help build resilience, strengthen self-esteem, and develop coping strategies for the challenges they face both now and in the future.
Having completed specialist training in working with children and young people, I also understand the importance of working sensitively with parents and carers, when appropriate, while maintaining confidentiality and safeguarding the young person’s trust.
Above all, my aim is to offer a space where children and young people feel seen, heard, and empowered to be themselves — and where meaningful, lasting change can begin.
